The webinar on tropical cyclones is a modern and comprehensive approach to the most dangerous meteorological phenomenon that a mariner can face. This course covers all the basic knowledge a bridge officer needs to know, such as tropical cyclone structure, naming, the dangerous and navigable semicircle, Rule 1-2-3 and the revised danger zone. Special reference is also made to the way tropical cyclones are symbolized on the surface maps issued by the largest meteorological services in the world (NOAA, JMA) and the way to read the meteorological messages (advisories) is explained. And all this through practical applications, exercises and numerous examples. This particular seminar was chosen by HELMEPA for inclusion in its annual educational program of 2016, and was implemented on the 2nd day of the seminar entitled "Navigation Safety".  (more…)

THE StormGeo Greece AS and the MeteoMarine are organizing on Thursday, March 16, 2023 from 11.00-13.00 Modern Marine Meteorology Workshop with the participation of the 5th Semester students. The participants in the Workshop will have the opportunity to learn how to read the surface maps that we receive on board (facsimile), what the significant wave height is and how to read wave maps. At the same time, they will be informed about all the modern developments in the process of optimizing the course using modern tools.

Weather Review of 2022 for Monemvasia

2022 was a year with fairly mild weather and little rain in general since, except for August and November, all the other months were drier than average (we explain below what we consider average). In terms of temperature, the year was quite cool without temperature spikes and heat waves. It is noteworthy that the absolute maximum of the year, which occurred on June 23, did not exceed 36.8 degrees! We can also say that the meltemi did not particularly concern us, as other years were much stronger. So let's look at each parameter separately. (more…)
