The Nautical Meteorology webinar on Tropical Cyclones is aimed at ocean-going ship bridge officers of any rank, AEN students as well as shipping company office executives.

Seminar contents

Saffir-Simpson wind scale, nomenclature of tropical cyclones, formation of tropical cyclones, structure of tropical cyclones, seasons and trajectories of tropical cyclones, dangerous and navigable semicircle, rule 1-2-3, danger zone, plotting tropical cyclones on meteorological surface maps and forecasting their trajectory, how to read weather advisories, calculating the optimal course to avoid tropical cyclones, using e-mail to receive meteorological information and forecasts concerning tropical cyclones.

Location

The seminar will be conducted using the educational platform ZoomAfter you register, you will be sent a link and detailed instructions to connect and watch the webinar. The course is interactive. This means that the participants are actively involved, expressing their questions but also participating in solving exercises with maps and weather programs.

Reporter

THE Dr. Nikos Mazarakis is Professor of Marine Meteorology, visiting professor at Uninettuno University/Institute for International Maritime Studies, lecturer at KEDIVIM University of Western Macedonia and General Office Manager of the Greek Office of the weather company STORMGEO. At the same time, he collaborates as a research associate at National Observatory of Athens. He is one of the main presenters on meteorology in the program "Enhancing maritime security spirit in the Eastern Mediterranean". He has to his credit more than 5500 hours of teaching in the subject of Nautical Meteorology while in the past he has collaborated with major Athenian newspapers, radio and television stations. He organizes seminars for large companies and groups while he has given dozens of lectures in Greece and Cyprus on weather conditions with an emphasis on the sea. For detailed CV click here.
