Nautical Meteorology Seminar in Chios

The two-day seminar was held with complete success Modern Nautical Meteorology on 25 and 26 April 2015 in the town of Chios. The seminar was hosted by "Maria Tsakos" Foundation and was attended by professional and cadet sailors of the Oinousses school. We would like to thank the institution for kindly providing the space and the participants for the interest they showed in the seminar.

The seminar was held with complete success Modern Nautical Meteorology for Tropical Cyclones on April 20, 2015 in St. Petersburg, Russia. The seminar was held in collaboration with the company Danaos at the city's Maritime Museum and was attended by the company's bridge officers. We would like to thank the company for its many years of cooperation and its trust in our educational services, for the training of its executives.

Seminar Description

The Marine Meteorology seminar entitled Modern Marine Meteorology (Level I) trains participants in the basic principles of modern Marine Meteorology, having as main subjects learning how to read and understand the meteorological surface charts that are published daily by the largest meteorological services in the world, which deal with the weather forecasting in the Oceans. These services are the American Meteorological Service (NOAA/OPC), the Japanese (JMA) and the English (Metoffice). Also, the most modern techniques of safe course planning (weatherrouting) are taught with the aim of avoiding dangerous barometric systems and tropical cyclones. The seminar also makes special reference to waves (wind waves and swell).

Target Audience

The seminar is aimed at bridge officers of ocean-going ships, of any rank, as well as office executives of shipping companies. (more…)

Seminar Description

The Tropical Cyclones seminar is a modern approach to the most dangerous weather phenomena while traveling on board. The participants have the chance to learn all the valuable and useful information relative to the tropical cyclones such as the structure, the onomatology, the birth, the dangers and the navigable hemisphere of the tropical cyclones. Moreover, they learn how to read the weather maps that are provided on board, focusing on the way that tropical cyclones are depicted on the official radiofaxes by NOAA and JMA. In addition, instructions on how to read the official advisories are given and also how the maps of 500 mb charts can help the mariners to predict the track of the tropical cyclones are provided.
