Another year (click here for the review of 2016) is approaching its end and bids us farewell with very cold weather, windy northerly winds and snowfall even in lowland areas.
In more detail:
The Thursday 29/12 and the Friday 30/12 in Northern, Central and Western Greece and the islands of the Eastern Aegean Temporary clouds are expected, sometimes denser, with plenty of sunshine, mainly in the West. In Eastern Sterea, Evia, Attica, Northeastern Peloponnese, the Cyclades and Crete, the weather scene will be completely different, as they are expected snowfall even in lowlands continental but also in semi-mountainous areas of Crete. In particular for Attica, apart from the mountainous areas, it will snow and in the city. With the existing forecast data, snowfall cannot be ruled out within the urban fabric of the city from the height of the Olympic Stadium and further north. The phenomena will be more intense from noon on Thursday and onwards, while they will continue on Friday.
Winds in the Ionian Sea will be north-northeasterly 5-6 and locally north 7 knots. In the Aegean Sea, winds will be northerly 7-8 knots and locally 9 knots.
Temperatures at very low levels will range on Thursday 29/12 in Northern Greece from -6 to 5 degrees, in Western Greece from -2 to 8 degrees, in Central Greece from -2 to 6 degrees, in Southern Greece from -1 to 6 degrees and in the Aegean from 2 to 7 degrees. In Athens the maximum will reach only 4 degrees in the city center. On Friday the maximum temperature in the mainland will record a slight further drop of 1 to 2 degrees.
The Saturday 31/12 the phenomena will stop by noon in Attica and will gradually be limited by evening in the mountainous areas of Crete. The winds in the Ionian Sea will blow weakly and in the Aegean Sea north-northwest 3-4 mph in the western parts and 6-8 mph in the central and eastern parts, with gradual weakening. The temperatures will not change significantly while in the mainland there will be frost in places, strong.
The New Year's Day 1/1 The weather conditions will be very good throughout the country. The winds in the Aegean will weaken further. In the morning, there will be severe frost in the mainland in places, but the maximum temperatures will rise by 2-3 degrees.
Here are some useful questions and answers:
1. Will he lay it out in the Constitution?
If we mean snow not on the grass in the few parks downtown has but on the streets, the answer is most likely No. It seems that the snowpack in the basin starts from 200-300 meters and above. In short, from the Olympic stadium and further north.
2. Will it snow on the Athens-Lamia National Road?
The answer is clearly yes, it will snow on Thursday and Friday as well. But not along the entire length of the National Road, but only along a small section leaving Attica and up to Orchomenos. This means that the entire remaining road network will be clean from snow. So if we leave Athens from Thursday noon onwards it goes without saying that we should have chains with us and know in advance how to put them in. It is a shame to have planned to go, for example, to Athanasios Diakos in Fokida for New Year's and to be stuck in Malakasa...
3. Will it snow in Artemisio?
Snowfall is expected in Artemisio. However, the forecast data for Tuesday 27/12 for this area generally indicates weak phenomena. In any case, it is necessary to have snow chains, even if the probability of using them is small. Throughout the rest of the road network, the only problem that may exist is local frost. However, let's not forget that December this year was a particularly dry month with very few southerly winds. So there is nothing to freeze on the roads...
4. And after New Year's what?
From New Year's Day onwards, the temperature will gradually rise and will gradually return to normal levels for the season, with the drought apparently continuing.
I wish everyone a new year that is better than all the previous ones, creative, happy, optimistic, with health for all people.
Happy birthday!!
