Seminar Description

The Nautical Meteorology seminar for the Greek Seas is an innovative seminar in which participants learn practical knowledge about the weather at sea and beyond, always in the light of modern meteorological science. Knowledge that is immediately usable and will give them the necessary self-confidence and certainty to deal with the complex weather that prevails in our country. This seminar not only covers theoretical knowledge but also gives practical examples and reveals to participants the secrets of safe weather forecasting. No mathematical or meteorological knowledge is required for participation, only basic internet browsing skills.

Target Audience

The seminar is aimed at professional sailors working in the Greek Seas and the Mediterranean, sailors (professional or not), skippers, owners or operators of speedboats or people who are generally interested in meteorology and are active in the Greek Seas. It is also aimed at professional groups whose work is at sea such as porters, divers, etc. but also at anyone who wants to learn the secrets of the weather in the Greek Seas.

Seminar contents

Wind and isobarics – interaction of wind and land in coastal areas – caves, meltemia, sea breeze, rain forecast – precipitation forecast maps, methodology we follow for wind and rain forecast, practical signs that warn us of a possible change in weather, cold and warm fronts – weather they cause, types of weather that affect our country, squalls – their forecast, meteorology and the Internet – which sites to trust for forecasting and observing the weather in our country? Waves – Significant Wave Height, wave height forecast, Grib Files and OPENCPN.

Cost

The participation cost is 120€ but for participants under 25 years of age there is a discount of 20%. The above price includes the notebook, the certificate of participation, the accompanying material and the coffee breaks. For this specific seminar, no advance payment is required and payment is made upon receipt of the individual attendance file.

Reporter

The presenter of the seminars is Dr. Nikos Mazarakis. Ο Δρ. Νίκος Μαζαράκης είναι καθ/της Ναυτικής Μετεωρολογίας και Συνεργάτης Ερευνητής του National Observatory of Athens. Έχει στο ενεργητικό του περισσότερες από 5500 ώρες διδασκαλίας στο αντικείμενο της Ναυτικής Μετεωρολογίας ενώ στο παρελθόν έχει συνεργαστεί με μεγάλες αθηναϊκές εφημερίδες, ραδιοφωνικούς σταθμούς και τηλεοπτικά κανάλια. Αρθρογραφεί στο περιοδικό σκάφος, είναι μετεωρολόγος του ραδιοφωνικού σταθμού ΒΗΜΑ FM 99.5, ενώ παράλληλα διοργανώνει σεμινάρια σε μεγάλες εταιρίες αλλά και ομίλους.
