The Importance of Accurate Weather Insight in Shipping

THE Panhellenic Merchant Marine Captains' Association (PEPEN) , the Merchant Navy Executive Training Center (KESEN/P) in collaboration with the company StormGeo, are organizing on April 2, 2019, from 15:00-18:00, at Hellas Liberty, seminar on the topic: “The Importance of Accurate Weather Insight in Shipping”

Seminar Overview

The lecture will focus on issues related to everyday life on board and in the office, and related to weather and charter agreements. The lecture will cover the following topics:

– noon report: how do we report the weather
– why in many cases does the weather differ from the forecast?
– does my ship's anemometer measure correctly?
– Douglas Sea State vs Significant Wave Height
– Currents and Current Factor
– what does good weather mean in the language of charter parties?
– what is the role of a weather company that monitors me?
– weather routing optimization – has effects on ship performance
– how should I think to calculate the optimal course?

Το σεμινάριο απευθύνεται στους αξιωματικούς γέφυρας ποντοπόρων πλοίων οποιασδήποτε βαθμίδας, σπουδαστές ΑΕΝ καθώς επίσης και σε στελέχη γραφείου ναυτιλιακών εταιριών.

Where and when

Το σεμινάριο θα διεξαχθεί στο χώρο του πλωτού μουσείου Hellas Liberty που βρίσκεται στον κεντρικό λιμένα Πειραιά στην Ακτή Βασιλειάδη – Πύλη Ε2. Για την ακριβή τοποθεσία πατήστε here.

The seminar speaker is Dr. Nikos MazarakisDr. Nikos Mazarakis is Professor of Marine Meteorology, Visiting Professor at Uninettuno University/Institute for International Maritime Studies and Director of the Greek Office of the weather company STORMGEO και εισηγητής σεμιναρίων μετεωρολογίας της MeteoMarine. At the same time, he collaborates as a research associate at National Observatory of Athens. He has more than 5500 hours of teaching experience in the field of Marine Meteorology, while in the past he has collaborated with major Athenian newspapers, radio and television stations.
