Seminar Description

The Syros Inflatable and Speedboat Club is organizing, in collaboration with MeteoMarine, for the 2nd consecutive year, the Nautical Meteorology seminar for the Greek Seas (Part B). The Greek Seas Meteorology seminar is an innovative seminar in which participants learn practical knowledge about the weather at sea and beyond, always in the light of modern meteorological science. Knowledge that is immediately usable and will give them the necessary self-confidence and certainty to deal with the complex weather that prevails in our country. This particular seminar not only covers theoretical knowledge but also gives practical examples and reveals to participants the secrets of safe weather forecasting. No mathematical or meteorological knowledge is required for participation, only basic internet browsing skills.

Target Audience

This specific seminar on October 23rd is aimed at members of the Syros inflatable and speedboat group.

Contents of Part B of the seminar

Rain forecast – precipitation forecast maps, methodology we follow for rain forecasting, practical signs that warn us of a possible change in weather, cold and warm fronts – weather they cause, weather types that affect our country, squalls – their forecast, waves – Significant Wave Height, wave height forecast, Grib Files, OPENCPN, qtVlm.

Syros: Sunday, October 23, 2016, Time: 10:30 – 13:30. The seminar will take place at the premises of the OFTS of Syros.

The presenter of the seminars is Dr. Nikos MazarakisDr. Nikos Mazarakis is Professor of Marine Meteorology and Associate Researcher at National Observatory of Athens. He has more than 5500 hours of teaching experience in the field of Marine Meteorology and in the past has collaborated with major Athenian newspapers, radio stations and television channels.
