What will I learn in the seminar?
Upon completion of the seminar, participants will learn, among other things:
- How and why weather phenomena are created, rain, snow, hail, etc.
- How barometric lows are created and how they move.
- What are weather fronts and what is their role in shaping the weather?
- How can we recognize snowstorms before they break out and which season is the most dangerous?
- What are the practical signs that warn us of a possible change in weather?
- What are the types of weather that prevail in our country at each time of the year?
- How and why does the climate change and what are the differences between weather and climate.
- How do we make a weather forecast and what are the most reliable sources for the forecast.
Who is the seminar aimed at?
The Meteorology seminar is aimed at adults, regardless of profession or status, who wish to unlock the secrets of weather and the atmosphere and be able to even make their own forecast. No mathematical or physics knowledge is required. The seminar is ideal for:
- students, especially in the physics or mathematics department who intend to specialize in meteorology
- engineers
- farmers & livestock breeders
- firefighters, porters, rescuers
- fishermen
- mountain guides
- maritime professionals
- every professional whose work is affected by weather conditions, and
- anyone who loves the environment, meteorological phenomena and simply wants to enrich their knowledge in this subject
Who teaches at the seminar?
The main speaker of the seminar is Professor of Marine Meteorology Dr. Nikos Mazarakis with over 20 years of educational experience in teaching meteorology. What educational method is used?
The seminar is conducted via the Zoom educational platform and you can participate from the comfort of your own space. It is interactive and participants express their questions as if they were in a physical classroom. The seminar is ALWAYS live and we use rich visual aids for a deeper understanding and memorization of the topics we present. The seminar does not have mathematics but in any case we follow all the basic principles of the science of meteorology. In case you miss the week's lesson for extraordinary reasons, you can watch it on video as many times as you want. As part of the seminar, you receive rich educational material completely free of charge.

- Vertical structure and composition of the atmosphere, weather and climate
- Energy, heat and radiation, greenhouse effect, seasons, temperature variation
- Atmospheric humidity, water cycle, relative humidity and dew point, apparent temperature
- Condensation, fog, mist, clouds, temperature inversion
- Atmospheric stability, cloud formation, vertical movements in the atmosphere
- Types of precipitation, rain, snow, hail
- Atmospheric pressure and wind, meltemia, sea breeze
- Global atmospheric circulation, air currents, ocean-atmosphere interaction
- Air masses and fronts, formation and trajectories of barometric lows, Mediterranean cyclones
- Types of weather that affect Greece, the role of topography in shaping the weather in our country
- Storms, tornadoes and waterspouts. Practical forecast, warning signs
- Climate change, myths and truths. What exactly is happening with global warming?
- Weather observation, weather stations, satellites and balloons. Global network of meteorological observations
- Numerical Weather Forecasting – meteorological models
- How do I make my own forecast and what are the best weather sites?
- Ensemble forecast, upper atmosphere maps 850 hPa & 500 hPa
What is the duration, when does it start and what is the price of the seminar?
The seminar is held every week for 2 consecutive hours and has a total duration of 6 months. This means 24 two-hour lessons. The seminar will begin on November 11, 2024 and will be held every Monday from 18.00 - 20.00. The registration period ends on Wednesday, November 6, 2024. The tuition fee is 40 euros per month and payments are made monthly. In case of prepayment of the entire tuition fee, a discount of 12.5% is applied and the total amount is 210 euros. If for any reason you are unable to continue attending the seminar, under certain conditions, you are not required to pay for the months you will not attend. Will I receive a certificate of attendance after completing the seminar?
All participants will receive a certificate of attendance. The seminar is in the certification process. This means that you will have the opportunity to receive a certificate of attendance in addition to the certificate. Details about the process will be provided soon.
