The weather during the holiday season

by meteorologist Nikos Mazarakis and MeteoMarine

Like every year, this year too, instead of just wishes, we are also giving you the weather forecast for the holiday season. According to the forecast, the weather will have two faces during the holiday season, since unlike Christmas, which will generally be with high temperatures and plenty of sunshine, New Year's will move in a more wintery pattern.

We wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year!

Here is the weather forecast:
On Christmas Day The weather will be good with scattered clouds which will gradually thicken from noon onwards. There is a possibility of a few light rains only for Western Greece from the afternoon onwards. The winds in the Aegean will blow from southern directions, moderate to strong, and from the afternoon onwards in places in the northeast, almost gale force 7 mph. In the Ionian Sea, the winds will blow weakly. Temperatures will fluctuate at high levels for the season, reaching 16 - 20 degrees.

The Friday 26/12 Cloudy weather will prevail in most of the country while local rains will occur in the Eastern Aegean, Thrace and Western Greece. Winds in the Aegean will blow from southern directions, moderate to strong. In the Ionian Sea, winds will be weak. Temperatures will drop by 1-2 degrees in their maximum values.

The Saturday 27/12 The weather will be cloudy throughout the country, with rain in the lowlands, snow in the mountains and storms over the sea areas. The winds in the North Aegean will blow from the northeast moderate to strong and in the rest of the Aegean from southern directions with the same intensity. In the Ionian Sea, the winds will blow from the northeast weak to moderate. Temperatures will drop and will fluctuate at normal levels for the season.

The Sunday 28/12 the phenomena will weaken and will be limited mainly to the western parts and the islands of the Eastern Aegean. According to the existing data from the Monday 29/12 up to on New Year's Day The weather scenario will be wintery with abundant rain in the lowlands but also significant snowfall in the mountains, above 1200 meters, as our country will be affected by successive waves of bad weather.

Although it is still too early to say anything for sure, the weather seems to be getting milder from New Year's onwards, with temperatures at normal levels for the season, but still without a lack of rain.

Happy holidays!!
