Seminar Description

The Tropical Cyclones seminar is a modern approach of the most dangerous weather phenomena while travelling on board. The participants have the chance to learn all the valuable and useful information relative to the tropical cyclones such as the structure, the onomatology, the birth, the dangers and the navigable hemisphere of the tropical cyclones. Moreover, they learn how to read the weather maps that are provided on board, focusing on the way that tropical cyclones are depicted on the official radiofaxes by NOAA and JMA. In addition, instructions on how to read the official advisories are given and also how the maps of 500 mb charts can help the mariners to predict the track of the tropical cyclones are provided.

The seminar will be attended by deck marine officers of the DANAOS Shipping Company Ltd.

Contents of the seminar

Saffir – Simpson wind scale, Onomatology, Genesis, Structure, Seasons and Typical Tracks, Dangerous and Navigable Hemisphere, Tropical cyclones and Radiofaxes, Rule 1-2-3 and Danger Area, requesting charts and weather data via email.
