The Webinar is aimed at both professional and cadets seafarers, regardless of rank, as well as ocean-going skippers.

The first day of the webinar is dedicated to learning how to read official surface maps (facsimile) and wave maps. Through numerous examples and practical applications, participants will not only learn how to read these maps but also how to use them effectively, enabling them to avoid dangerous weather situations and plan their courses safely and confidently.

The second day of the webinar focuses on learning the principles of weather routing optimization, with an emphasis on commonly used optimization methods.
Participants will also learn how to obtain official weather charts and GRIB files through Saildocs, and how to optimize their routes using the Bon Voyage System.

The seminar will be conducted through Zoom. After paying for your participation, you will be sent a link and detailed instructions to log in and watch the webinar. The course is interactive. This means that the participants are actively involved, expressing their questions but also participating in solving exercises with maps and weather programs.

Instructor

The instructor of the seminar is Dr. Nikos Mazarakis.
Dr. Mazarakis is a Professor of Marine Meteorology, a visiting professor at Uninettuno University/Institute for International Maritime Studies, a lecturer at KEDIVIM University of Western Macedonia, and the General Office Manager of the Greek Office of StormGeo, part of Alfa Laval. Additionally, he collaborates as a research associate at the National Observatory of Athens.

He is a key presenter on meteorology in the program “Enhancing Maritime Security Spirit in the Eastern Mediterranean” and has over 6000 hours of teaching experience in Marine Meteorology. In the past, he has worked with major Greek newspapers, radio stations, and tv channels. Dr. Mazarakis organizes seminars for large companies and groups and has delivered numerous lectures in various countries, focusing on maritime weather conditions.
